On Friday, January 29, four undergraduate students from the PSU Department of Dairy & Animal Science competed in the National Beef Quiz Bowl at the 2010 Cattle Industry Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The team finished in second place.
Students were asked questions pertaining to various disciplines related to cattle and beef production, including meats, nutrition, genetics and physiology, as well as “hot topics” in the national cattle industry. In order for a university to compete, it must qualify by winning its “regional” American Society of Animal Science Quadrathalon. Other competing schools included: University of Georgia, Oregon State University, and Kansas State University. This year, Kansas State University won the competition.
Penn State remains the “winningest” team at the National Beef Quiz Bowl to date, having won more (9 times winning, 5 times runner-up) competitions than any other university since the contest’s inception in 1993.
